Zeus

Zeus is the son of Cronus and Rhea. Hidden as an infant in a cave on Crete, he later rescued the siblings his father had swallowed, led the new generation of gods in defeating the Titans, received the sky and thunder as his share, and became the god-king of Olympus. He protects oaths, guests, and the order of the gods, but he also brings harsh judgment against arrogance, deceit, and transgression. Behind his majesty there is always a watchfulness born from succession, prophecy, and the fear of disorder.

Hera

Queen of Olympus, guardian of marriage and royal authority; she sits enthroned as queen of the gods, remembering every broken oath and every slight, and upholds the order she recognizes through delay, reckoning, and punishment.

Athena

Athena is one of the Twelve Olympians in Greek mythology, governing wisdom, strategy, civic order, handicrafts, and disciplined war. She is the daughter of Zeus and one of the deities who most clearly embodies the power of reason, judgment, and discipline. Unlike Ares, who represents the frenzy of the battlefield, Athena does not glorify uncontrolled slaughter; she stands closer to the lucid, calculating, protective, and restrained side of war.

Apollo

Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis, ruling over light, archery, music, medicine, purification, and prophecy. With his silver bow he slew Python and founded the oracle at Delphi; yet through pride, desire, and jealousy he is also drawn into the stories of Daphne, Hyacinthus, and Hermes, appearing radiant and majestic, but not free from impulse or error.

Artemis

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. She rules over the hunt, the wilderness, maiden chastity, protection in childbirth, and sudden death. She often appears as a young goddess with a bow, close to forests, deer, and nymphs, and she fiercely defends oaths, boundaries, and the dignity of bodily inviolability. She can protect the vulnerable, but she is also quick to punish insult, voyeurism, or arrogance.

Poseidon

Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea, lord of earthquakes, and one of the masters of horses. He governs tides, storms, and sea routes; forceful and changeable by nature, he can grant safe passage to sailors, or answer insult with raging waves, split rock, and briny springs.

Hades

Hades is the son of Cronus and Rhea, and the brother of Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. When the Olympian gods divided cosmic authority among themselves, he received the world below, ruling the dead, the wealth beneath the earth, and the boundaries no one can finally escape. He rarely appears at the feasts of the gods, yet in the marriage of Persephone, the judgment of souls, and Heracles’ capture of Cerberus, he emerges as a cold, lawful, unyielding god—stern, but not simply evil.

Demeter

Demeter is the Greek goddess of grain, agriculture, and the earth’s abundance, daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and mother of Persephone. Her divinity is not merely a gentle power that gives food: after her daughter was taken into the underworld by Hades, she left Olympus, wandered in the shape of an old woman, revealed her divine power at Eleusis, and forced the gods to face the pain of a bereaved mother by making the earth stop producing. She thus stands at the center of nurture, famine, the cycle of seasons, and the Eleusinian Mysteries.

Persephone

Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, and the queen of Hades. While gathering narcissus flowers in a meadow, she was abducted into the Underworld, and her mother Demeter’s grief left the earth barren. Because she ate pomegranate seeds, the gods ultimately arranged that she would spend part of each year below and part of it back beside her mother. She is both the maiden who was taken and the queen who holds honor in the Underworld, linking blossoms, grain, death, and return.

Aphrodite

Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love and beauty, and also the mistress of desire, marital attraction, and dangerous passion. With the scent of flowers, a smile, and her golden girdle, she can bring lovers together; she can also make irreverence, arrogance, and uncontrolled desire pay their price.

Hermes

Hermes is the son of Zeus and Maia, born in a cave in Arcadia, and from his first day he reveals a gift for invention, theft, speech, and negotiation. He is the herald of Olympus, patron of travelers and merchants, god of thieves and boundaries, and the guide who leads souls toward the Underworld; his myths often move between quick-witted playfulness and the danger of crossing lines.

Dionysus

Dionysus is the son of Zeus and the Theban princess Semele, admitted among the Olympian gods through the myth of his “twice-born” nature. He rules over grapes, wine, ecstasy, mountain rites, and theatrical sacred disorder. He often appears as a gentle, beautiful foreign youth, yet he harshly punishes greed, arrogance, and those who refuse to acknowledge divinity. In the stories of Thebes, the pirate ship, and Pallene in Thrace, he is both the son of a humiliated mother and the god who drives people beyond ordinary order to witness the terrifying face of divine power.
